7 Simple Steps To Look 10 Years Younger

How do celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Gabrielle Union and Reese Witherspoon maintain their youthful appearances? It may seem like they spend thousands on skin treatments and products to keep everything nice and firm. But if you let them tell it, they swear by this simple regimen: drinking lots of water (do we believe them?). Sounds pretty simple and too good to be true, however getting adequate H20 and altering your everyday routine can actually work wonders for your skin, according to studies done by dermatologists. Here are 7 things you need to do to slow down the aging effects on your skin (perhaps until you’re 70): Drink lots of water. I recently learned that the average woman is supposed to drink 96 ounces of water every single day, which sounds like a lot, especially since I don't really drink water unless it's in coffee or if I'm painfully hungover. But that's what doctors and Michelle Obama recommend, because it's good for your health. So I figured that I should probably give it a shot. I've also been breaking out recently, and I've read in dozens of women's magazines and websites that drinking more water is the magic cure to my skin problems. The more you drink, the easier it is to flush toxins from the skin and generate a “glowing complexion.” This does not necessarily help with wrinkles, but it helps with dryness and dullness, which can make you look older. #1 AND THE MOST IMPORTANT! Apply sunscreen every day before heading out. Even if you don’t plan on being outdoors for too long, it’s still important to protect your face from the sun. A few seconds of exposure to UV radiation is enough to cause some damage to your skin. Yet what if we told you that sunscreen alone isn’t enough? You may not be aware of the myriad of other skin protectants currently on the market. How can you go about tweaking your sun-shielding regimen? We’re here to demystify your options – with their cryptic ingredients lists and promising claims – to optimize your protection. Your skin will thank us in 10 years’ time. First Layer : Antioxidant Serum UV rays create damaging free radicals, which is part of the reason why they inflict damage upon the skin. Antioxidants work by specially targeting some of those free radicals, neutralizing them and giving you extra protection. Even when used alone, serums can provide up to an SPF 5 protection once absorbed. Second Layer: Pigment Blocker Adding a pigment blocking cream to your daily skincare regimen is a sure-fire way to supersize your sun protection and ward off age and sun spots, brown marks and discoloration. Third Layer: Sunscreen To give your skin the best protection, choose a sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB. UVA is associated with tanning, ageing and photo-damage, while UVB is associated with burning. Both UVA and UVB contribute to the development of skin cancer. Most of your standard supermarket brands will guard you against UVB, but you need to ensure you’re protected from UVA, too. As such, always look for the word ‘broad-spectrum’ on the label. Fourth Layer: Make-up After applying your antioxidant serum, moisturizer and physical sunscreen, use a foundation or BB cream with SPF. Cream formulas such as these usually contain chemical sunscreens, which work together with your physical sunscreen to offer maximum protection. If you prefer lighter coverage or have oily skin, use a mineral finishing powder with SPF over your make-up. Exercise on a regular basis. Studies have proven that working out can boost your immune system and decrease your chances for chronic diseases. Find something that you enjoy doing, whether it is running or swimming, and do it often. Thoroughly remove your makeup and cleanse your face before going to bed. Failure to do so will result in clogged pores and break down the collagen and elastin in your skin. This effect will produce fine lines and wrinkles. Get plenty of sleep and be sure to rest your face on a silk pillowcase. Cotton pillowcases can have drying effect on your skin, which can lead to wrinkles. But a satin pillowcase will slide across your face, thus preventing wrinkles. Smooth lines with anti-aging creams. Most retinoids contain vitamin A and antioxidants, help skin look virtually ageless by intensifying skin cells natural turnover. Eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in antioxidants. If you can avoid processed foods, including caffeinated beverages (Drinking Green Tea is Great though!) and alcohol, (1 Glass of Wine won’t hurt) this will help your body function optimally and give your skin a healthy glow. Remember, you really are what you eat. These combined efforts will not produce overnight results, but over time you will notice how youthful and radiant your skin looks in comparison to what it did before when you were not taking good care of your body.
